CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Made to be used, made to last

Our boards and bespoke pieces are made for everyday use, but natural timber needs the right care to keep it looking and performing at its best.

  • Condition regularly

Apply wax polish to both faces and all edges, especially during the first few weeks of use.

  • Clean by hand

Wipe clean with warm water or a damp cloth, then dry immediately with a towel.

  • Keep airflow underneath

Do not leave your board flat on the worktop for long periods. Raise it or stand it on edge when not in use.

  • Avoid heat and moisture

Do not soak, dishwasher clean, or leave near radiators, strong heat sources or prolonged direct sunlight.

CARE GUIDE

Detailed care instructions

Natural timber & movement

All of our chopping boards are made from solid wood, a natural material. Every piece has its own grain, tone and character, so no two boards are ever the same.

Wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity. Over time, your board may develop subtle changes in tone and texture, along with small surface marks, checks, splits or cracks.

These natural features are part of the timber’s character and should be expected over time, especially with regular use.

First use & initial conditioning

Your board will be supplied pre-finished with our food-safe wax polish. To help the timber settle and remain stable in its new environment, follow the conditioning schedule below.

First 7 days: Apply wax polish once per day, covering both faces and all edges.

After the first week: Apply wax polish once per week for one month.

After the first month: Apply wax polish once per month, covering both faces and all edges of the board.

Tip: Always condition both sides of the board evenly to help prevent moisture imbalance or uneven movement.

Everyday Cleaning

Wipe clean after use with a damp cloth or warm water, then dry immediately with a towel.

Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals and abrasive pads.

Where possible, allow the board to air-dry standing on its edge before storing it away.

Do not soak your board, leave it wet, or place it in the dishwasher. These can expose the timber to excess moisture, heat and detergent, which may cause movement, splitting or damage.

Airflow & elevation

Solid wood boards must be allowed to breathe evenly on all sides. Where boards are supplied without feet, they should be kept raised off the worktop when in use and during drying.

Avoid leaving boards flat on the worktop for extended periods, as this can trap moisture underneath.

Use a rack or spacer, or stand the board on its edge when not in use. Boards fitted with rubber feet provide consistent elevation and airflow as standard, making them the most stable option for everyday use.

Correct elevation, combined with regular use of wax polish, helps maintain long-term stability, appearance and performance.

Ongoing maintenance

Once the initial conditioning schedule has been completed, reapply wax polish whenever the board feels dry or appears lighter in colour.

Always apply wax polish to both faces and all edges of the board. This helps protect the timber and reduce moisture imbalance.

Keep the board away from prolonged direct sunlight, radiators and strong heat sources.

Regular care will help maintain the board’s appearance, stability and performance over time.
