Board Care & Refinish Service

Our Board Care & Refinish Service is designed to extend the life of chopping boards and butcher’s blocks, restoring the surface and finish after regular kitchen use. Each board is carefully reconditioned in our workshop and returned refreshed, protected and ready for continued everyday use.

As part of the service, we’ll remove the existing finish, sand the board back to reveal the timber beneath, and work across the surface to remove as many everyday marks and scratches as possible. Minor defects will be filled where appropriate using a food-safe filler, before the surface is refined and a fresh food-safe finish is applied.

This service is intended for routine maintenance and surface restoration following normal use. Some deeper marks, staining or imperfections may remain where they cannot be removed without compromising the board itself. Any repairs outside the scope of the standard refinishing service will be assessed separately and quoted before any additional work is carried out.

Customers are responsible for arranging and paying for postage to our workshop. We recommend using a tracked delivery service with suitable cover for the value of your board. Once received and assessed as suitable for our standard refinishing service, we’ll usually complete the work within 5 working days. Return postage and packaging by tracked courier are included in the service price.

If additional repairs are required, we’ll contact you before carrying out any extra work and there’s no obligation to proceed. If you decide not to go ahead, we can return the board without refinishing it and refund the refinishing service payment, less £12.50 to cover return postage and packaging. Alternatively, you’re welcome to arrange collection at your own expense.

Sizes
Medium – boards up to approximately 400 × 280 mm.
Large – boards up to approximately 600 × 280 mm.
XL – boards up to approximately 600 × 360 mm.

If you’re unsure which size applies, or your board falls outside these dimensions, please contact us before ordering. If a different service size is required once we receive the board, we’ll confirm any price adjustment with you before starting work.
Options
This service is available as an annual maintenance option. For multiple boards, commercial environments, or workshop servicing, please get in touch to discuss availability.

Material
Suitable for solid wood chopping boards and butcher’s blocks made from hardwoods such as oak, beech, ash, walnut and similar timbers.

This service is intended for boards originally designed for food preparation use.

Finish
All boards are refinished using our food-safe finish, making them suitable for continued use in the kitchen and for food preparation.

The finish is applied after the board has been fully prepared and sanded, helping to protect the timber while bringing out its natural grain.

Care
Boards should be cleaned before being sent to us and free from food debris or surface contaminants. Full surface preparation and refinishing will be carried out as part of the service.

Once your board has been received and assessed as suitable for our standard refinishing service, we’ll usually complete the work within 5 working days.
Maintenance
This service is intended for annual or periodic maintenance depending on use. Regular care between services, including hand washing only and reapplying food-safe wax polish when required, will help protect the timber and extend the time between refinishing.
